Efforts are needed to control the outbreak of novel coronavirus 2019-ncov. The world health organization (WHO) has issued guidelines recommending “home quarantine” for currently suspected novel coronavirus infections with mild disease. If your symptoms are mild (low fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat) and you do not have chronic diseases (such as chronic lung, heart, renal insufficiency, immune diseases), you may consider isolation at home.
Confirmed cases of pneumonia with novel coronavirus and close contacts should be under medical observation for 14 days from the last day of contact with the patient. In accordance with the recommendations of the world health organization, we recommend home quarantine for suspected infected persons and close contacts as follows:
Precautions for suspected patients
● It is recommended to live in a single room with good ventilation, separate rooms from family members, limit activities and keep at least 1 meter away in all cases. Avoid direct contact with other family members’ skin and clothing.
● If you need an escort, try to arrange for someone in good health to take care of you. No visits.
● Ensure that the kitchen, bathroom, living room and other public areas are well ventilated. Bathroom and toilet surfaces are disinfected daily. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects every day.
● when washing hands with soap and water, use disposable toilet paper. If not, dry with a clean personal towel, which will need to be replaced if it gets wet.
● When you cough or sneeze, you need to wear a mask or use tissues or your hands to cover it.
● Don’t share daily necessities with your family. After the use of tableware can be fully washed and reused.
● Patients with symptoms should stay at home until they disappear. Home isolation for at least 14 days.
● Keep phone lines open to ensure follow-up calls from relevant staff.
● Take your temperature and record it daily. If you have fever, cough or chest tightness, please return to the fever clinic as soon as possible.
● Wear a mask on the way to the doctor, and avoid taking public transportation to the medical institution as much as possible. Keep at least 1 meter away from others in public places.
Precautions for close contacts
● Wear a face mask when in a room with a suspicious patient. If the mask becomes wet and dirty due to secretions, it should be replaced immediately. Wash hands immediately after removing and discarding the mask.
● Wash hands immediately after any direct contact with a suspected patient or entering the isolation space. Wash your hands immediately before and after preparing food, before eating, after going to the bathroom, and when your hands are dirty. Gloves should be worn for oral and respiratory care, excrement, urine and other waste disposal of suspicious patients. Also wear gloves when touching objects contaminated by these secretions and wash hands immediately after removing gloves.
● When washing hands with soap and water, use disposable toilet paper. If not, dry with a clean personal towel, which will need to be replaced if it gets wet.
● Ensure that the kitchen, bathroom, living room and other public areas are well ventilated. Bathroom and toilet surfaces are disinfected daily. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects every day.
● All people who may have had contact with a suspected patient should be given a 14-day observation period. The observation period begins on the last day of contact with the patient. Take your temperature daily and record it. If you have fever, cough, dyspnea, or diarrhea, see a doctor as soon as possible.
● Wear a mask on the way to the hospital, avoid taking public transport to medical institutions as much as possible, in public places as far as possible away from others at least 1 meter distance.
