Not every site needs to use subdomains, and most are fine keeping different parts of their site in a subdirectory instead. A subdirectory is a folder on your website and appears after the domain name, like http://www.examplename.com/blog/.
So, which are better, subdomains or subdirectories?
That depends on the organizational needs of your website.
